The Cardinals play in the National League Central, a very competitive league with tons of history in their division.  The Cincinnati Reds seem to be on the rise in the division but still have to unseat St. Louis to take claim as the champions.  Milwaukee and Pittsburgh remain competitive even though that has not always been the case, and the Cubs are in a rebuilding phase.  Houston is simply playing out their final year in the National League.
